Statoil to Use Scarabeo 5 on Kristin Field Drilling Ops

Statoil has received consent to use the Scarabeo 5 mobile drilling rig for recompletion of production well 6406/2-S-1 in the Kristin field.

Kristin is a gas/condensate field in the Norwegian Sea, WNW of Namsos and about 17 km SW of the Åsgard A facility. The field has been developed using subsea facilities and a semi-submersible process facility. Water depth in the area is approx. 370 metres.

The well to be recompleted was drilled and put into production in 2005, but has been locked up since 2011. As operator of the field, Statoil now wishes to resume production from the well. The PSA has granted consent for recompletion of the well in accordance with Statoil’s application.

The work is planned to start in the first half of September at the earliest, with an estimated duration of 69 days.

The completion is to be carried out using the Scarabeo 5 mobile drilling rig.

Scarabeo 5 is a type ME 4500 and was built at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Genoa, Italy in 1990. The rig is operated by Saipem Norway. It is registered in the Bahamas under class ABS. Scarabeo 5 was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in May 2003.
