Sandbank Offshore Wind GmbH, Hamburg, intends to build an offshore wind farm in the North Sea. In the first construction phase it is planned to build 72 wind turbines with a total output of 288 MW, inter array cables and an offshore substation.

The project is located in the German Bight area, around 90 kms to the west of the Island of Sylt, directly on the border between Germany and Denmark. The water depth is between 24m and 35m.

The project is fully permitted and received the first Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency) (BSH) release in November 2009. The project is in the design phase and current certification tasks are conducted by Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services.

For further BSH releases, the project certification is split into four lots:

Lot 3: Implementation phase wind turbine generator and foundation;

Lot 4: Implementation phase offshore substation and inter array cables.

Deadline for the submission of documents for 2nd BSH release is mid-2014, for the submission of documents for 3rd BSH release is end of 2014.

Construction is planned to start in 2015, and it’s expected to finish by 2016.
