Wood Group to Carry Out Commissioning of GEAD Project

Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) has secured a US$50 million contract with Nexen Petroleum UK Limited to carry out the hook-up and commissioning of the Golden Eagle Area Development (GEAD) project in the UK North Sea.

The Golden Eagle field will be developed using two platforms – a wellhead platform and a production, utility and living quarters (PUQ) platform – connected by a 70 metre bridge. The field is located about 110km northeast of Aberdeen and first production from the project is expected in late 2014.

Under this new two year agreement, WGPSN will be responsible for the provision of management, labour, materials, services and equipment to complete the hook-up and commissioning of the offshore facilities. GEAD is being executed by Nexen Petroleum UK Limited, the project operator. Other coventurers include Maersk Oil North Sea UK Ltd, Suncor Energy UK Ltd and Edinburgh Oil and Gas Ltd.

WGPSN will employ approximately 100 personnel to service the contract from its headquarters in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Dave Stewart, UK Managing Director for WGPSN said: “This is a key project for WGPSN and we are very proud to have been selected by Nexen to provide support to one of the most significant offshore developments in the UKCS. We will be deploying a high performing management team, familiar with Nexen’s assets and processes, who have a track record of developing a positive project work culture that delivers results safely and on time.

WGPSN has a long history with Nexen, having previously delivered hook-up and commissioning services for the Buzzard platform enhancement project in the UK North Sea. Wood Group ODL, a wholly owned subsidiary of WGPSN, was also recently awarded a contract by Nexen to deliver documentation and training systems for the GEAD project.

In the UK, WGPSN now employs more than 8000 people working onshore and offshore. The company has UK offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Runcorn and Hull.
