Oil & Gas UK’s Briefing to Point Out Impacts of New Energy Reform Legislation

Oil & Gas UK’s final London breakfast briefing of 2012 on 12 December, sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills and The Royal Bank of Scotland, will shed new light on the potential impacts of the UK Government’s draft Energy Market Reform legislation and Gas Strategy on the UK and European gas markets.

Delegates will first hear how the growth of wind power could affect gas demand and supplies, gas storage, prices and the management of UK and European systems from Andrew Morris of Pöyry Management Consulting (UK) Ltd. Julia Pyke and Stephen Murray of Herbert Smith Freehills LLP will then provide an overview of the draft legislation on energy markets and the recently published gas strategy as well as expert analysis of its likely effects.

Mike Tholen, Oil & Gas UK’s economics director and chair of the briefing, said: “Recent Government announcements have reflected a strong acknowledgement of the importance of gas and the critical role it will play in delivering primary energy to meet the UK’s power and heat requirements in the decades to come. This breakfast presents an excellent opportunity to find out about the changing dynamics of the gas market.

A short networking break will follow the presentations; then the event will reconvene for a panel session chaired by Michael Tholen.
