BLG Loads Foundation Structure for Borkum Offshore Wind Farm

The foundation structure for the transformer station of the Trianel’s wind farm Borkum was loaded on November 8 on the pontoon VIKING BARGE 7 at ABC-Halbinsel peninsula, an offshore terminal operated by BLG LOGISTICS GROUP/ Wind Energy Logistics in Bremerhaven.

BLG loaded the 1,616 tonne and over 50m high steel structure with special heavy-duty vehicles (SPMT =Self Propelled Modular Transporter) from the terminal directly to the pontoon.

The SPMTs can be combined as needed. In this case, 60 axes were needed to safely move the structure on the pontoon. The foundation structure, called a jacket, will soon be transported to Trianel wind farm, 45 kilometers off Borkum and anchored in the sea. As of fall 2013, 80 wind turbines will be needed to supply around 200,000 households with electricity.
