Former Swan Hunter Shipyard Opens for Offshore Sector Development

The UK Government signed a new order for development of the former Swan Hunter shipyard, which will allow simplified planning process, the Bdaily news site reports.

The shipyard will become one of five Centres for Offshore Renewable Engineering (CORE).

Developers would not need to seek formal planning permission if their project meets specific criteria. Qualifying projects have to be within priority business sectors.

These sectors include offshore wind energy generation, tidal and wave technology, oil and gas exploration and extraction, as well as advanced subsea manufacturing and technology.
