European Commission to Turn Offshore Wind Data Public

The European Commission is opening a public consultation on “Marine Knowledge 2020: from seabed mapping to ocean forecasting”, reported Utility Week.

Namely, the EU Commission wants to make private marine data public.

For example, seabed surveys used by companies to obtain licenses for offshore wind development could be used publicly.

The Commission thinks that the companies have no reason to keep this data private after they’ve obtained the development licenses.
