Parker Hannifin Gets Contract for Cable Services at Northwind

Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, has been awarded a contract by Northwind NV (formerly Eldepasco NV), a joint venture of the Colruyt Group and Aspiravi NV of Belgium.

The scope of the agreement is for supply of infield array cables, cable accessories and offshore services for the Northwind Offshore Wind Farm to be constructed on the Bank Zonder Naam (Lodewijkbank) off the coast of Zeebrugge, Belgium.

The order encompasses the design, production and delivery of 51 kilometers (31.7 miles) of 36-kilovolt (kV) subsea power cables with built-in fiber-optic communication lines from Parker’s Energy Products Division. The cables will be used to construct the inner array electrical grid for the Northwind Offshore Wind Farm, and will connect all 72 3-megawatt wind turbines to an offshore base station.

Each individual cable array will be spooled onto reels and shipped from Parker’s deep-water quay in Tønsberg, Norway, during the spring of 2013. Parker will also supply cable accessories and provide experienced offshore service teams to perform termination and testing of the supplied cables.

Parker’s Energy Products Division has deep-water quayside manufacturing facilities strategically located in both Tønsberg and in Freeport, Texas, to handle large vessels and load-out operations (direct spooling to vessels) for large-scale power cable, umibilicals and mooring projects.

The Northwind Offshore Wind Farm, which Northwind estimates will provide green power for 250,000 households, will be the third offshore wind project for Belgium. Parker also supplied Eldepasco NV the infield array cables for the nearby Belwind Offshore Wind Project that was completed in December 2010.
