EOWDC Could Save GBP 45 Billion, Says Vattenfall

Vattenfall, developer of wind energy project offshore Aberdeen Bay, stated that this project could save GBP 45 billion of renewable energy production costs, writes the Press Association.

Vattenfall is one of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre developers planning to deploy 11 wind turbines offshore Donald Trump’s luxury golf resort.

US billionaire is leading a campaign against this project, saying the turbines will ruin the view from his golf course.

Jason Ormiston from Vattenfall said: “They could see gross value added to the UK economy of £7 billion and a cumulative cost-reduction impact of £45 billion for the whole offshore wind sector in UK waters by 2050.”

He was backed by West Coast Energy’s Steve Salt who pointed out that: “Industry and companies like ours need access to world-class test facilities to test technologies to demonstrate that they work and drive down the cost. In so doing, you give investors like Citigroup and others confidence that these technologies will actually work.”

They both welcome the support voiced by Holyrood administration leadership and think that renewables are under threat by some conservation offices that give importance to minority views.
