Det Norske to Complete Drilling of Well Near Ula Field

Det norske oljeselskap ASA, operator of production licence 450, is about to complete drilling of wildcat well 7/12-13 S. The well was drilled about 9 km south of the Ula field in the North Sea.

The primary exploration target for the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks the ’’Gyda segment’’. The secondary exploration target was proving petroleum in the Ula formation, also in the Upper Jurassic.

The well encountered reservoir rocks as expected in the “Gyda segment”. In the deepest exploration target, the Ula formation, the reservoir rocks were poorer than expected. Data acquisition and sampling have been carried out. The well is dry.

The well is the first exploration well in production licence 450, awarded in APA 2007. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 4500 metres below the sea surface and was terminated in Middle Triassic rocks in the Hegre group. Water depth at the site is 70 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 7/12-13 S was drilled by the Mærsk Guardian drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 440 S in the southern part of the North Sea to drill wildcat well 2/8-18 S where Faroe Petroleum Norge AS is the operator.
