Windreich AG Gets New Order for MEG 1 Substation

Windreich AG has reached a new milestone for the construction of the ‘MEG 1′ offshore wind farm substation. The order for the 400 MW substation is worth tens of millions of euros.

Consortium made up of Alstom Grid GmbH and SIAG Schaaf Industrie AG was commissioned for this job. The contract includes the manufacturing and installation of the system including helicopter deck, emergency power supply for the entire offshore wind farm and accommodation for the service personnel. The production will start in the second half of the current year, and the installation is scheduled for autumn 2013.

The extremely high operational reliability of the substation, which will connect 80 wind turbines, each with 5 MW, to the onshore grid, is achieved by using four 120 MVA transformers. The substation will be supported by the steel platform which weights around 6,500 tons.

We are delighted to further expand our partnership with Alstom SIAG” emphasizes the Windreich Manager Tim Kittel Hake.

The MEG 1 wind farm will be located approximately 45 kilometers north of the Borkum Island and will have a total capacity of 400 megawatts. The wind farm will comprise 80 tripod supported turbines in water depths ranging between 26.7m and 33.2m. It will supply about 1 million people with clean energy.
