Russia plans to ship oil in old atomic submarines

Russia plans to ship oil in old atomic submarines Russia plans to freight oil in old atomic submarines which are now ready to be scrapped. The subs will be refurbished for carrying 10,000 tons of oil under the ice in Arctic waters. The oil will be freighted under the ice, out to tankers in open water in the Barents Sea, and the tankers will in turn bring the oil to the world markets. Norway’s Industrial Minister, Ansgar Gabrielsen, said at an industrial seminar in Kirkenes that he is concerned over possible damage from these oil transports to the environment along the the Norwegian coast and in Norwegian waters. Norwegian authorities have admitted that preparedness along the coast is not good enough at present. (NRK) Rolleiv Solholm
